This is a work in progress. Nothing is written in stone and everything is open to discussion.

I'd kinda like a points system, but still go head to head. This is what I came up with and the overall scoring looks pretty good when you look at the order of the players.
Skaters
Goals (G) 0.6 Defense 0.63
Skaters Assists (A) 0.55 Defense 0.58
Blocks (Blk) 0.05
Faceoffs Won (FOW) 0.03
Faceoffs Lost (FOL) -0.025
Game-winning Goals (GWG) 0.2
Hits (Hit) 0.025
Penalty Minutes (PIM) 0.025
Power Play Goals (PPG) 0.15
Short-Handed Goals (SHG) 0.2
Shots on Goal (SOG) 0.05
Time On Ice (TOI) 0.025
Goalies
Games Played (GP) 0.7
Goals Against (GA) -0.55
Saves (SV) 0.054
Wins (W) 1
Shutouts (SHO) 1.5
Goals (G) 2
Assists (A) 1
Penalty Minutes (PIM) 0.025
Save Percentage (SV%)
Calculate Per Game, Cumulative: From 0 to 1, award 0point(s) for every0.001SV% From 0.9 to 0.909, award 0.003point(s) for every0.001SV% From 0.91 to 0.919, award 0.003point(s) for every0.001SV% From 0.92 to 0.929, award 0.005point(s) for every0.001SV% From 0.93 to 0.939, award 0.006point(s) for every0.001SV%

Okay. I think the rules are looking pretty good. If anyone finds any inconsistencies or anything that is confusing, please let me know.
Also, any change or add on suggestions, please let me know.
You'll see the "position eligibility" section is highlighted red. I'm not sure what we want to do with that. I kind of like that rule, but I think it's extra work and it makes for some roster issues if a player is changed part way through the season.
Thoughts?

Not really a "rule" per se... but a fun idea. Each year the Stanley Cup champion with have a "banner" (like the Stanley Cup Banners that get raised to the rafters in real life) added to our main board banner, plus it will be added to their team board banner.

So I've been asked multiple times about young players still on their NHL ELC or draftees who are not signed yet. As of now, this is my explanation.
You could bid as much as you want on a Makar, Caufield or any other player on an ELC or pre-ELC.
Then when their real life ELC is up, whether that's this year or next year or in 4 years... that player will be subject to offer-sheets.
The reason for this is so that we can get players up to realistic salaries. Obviously Makar isn't going to go for cheap, but even a really good prospect like Caufield likely doesn't go for more than like $2M. If he's never subject to offer-sheets the guy that owns him is likely to have him way to cheap for his entire career. Never mind what would happen with some of the lesser prospects who are late bloomers.
So the question is...
Do we like that idea? I don't know if it's the best system, but it's the best I can think of.
Anyone have any better ideas?

I'm all for it happening in the off season, but I fully agree that when you account for the time and for the roster issues, the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

We could up the thresholds to make dual eligibility less common. Then again... I'm not sure I know how to do that.

Major POTENTIAL rule change... open to discussion as always.
Instead of players with no NHL experience going in the inaugural FA bidding. We will have a 6 round draft where all players (who will be 18 on or before Sept 15th 2020) who have not played an NHL game are available. This will be held prior to the FA (everyone else) bidding.
In order to make this as fair as possible, it will be a snake draft. The pool will be quite deep.

I think we had it right the first time. I get the concern... I just feel like this is a little less exploitable.. and less problematic. Like, how does it work when you bid $3m a year for a guy, then that guy doesn't play an NHL game for 3 years? That's just $3m salary sitting in your minors? I guess it is. I'm not sure if that's a problem or not.

That's just $3m salary sitting in your minors? I guess it is. I'm not sure if that's a problem or not. I don't view that as a problem. It's the exact same thing that's happening in the other league now. Look at Tolvanen, for instance. You just dealt him with a 3+ million cap hit and the guy hasn't played a single game. The one thing I would consider is to force someone into bringing them to the active roster after the slide is over. I think that would prevent people from bidding an absurd amount on a minors eligible prospect, since you'd either lose that asset, be stuck with an unmanageable cap hit or it works out well and you look like a genius. Or, you could also look at an 81.5 million cap hit for the auction draft. That 81.5 million is a cumulative total, regardless of minors eligibility. That way, someone can blow their wad on young guys, stash them in the minors, but their 25 man roster takes a massive hit by going that route. Granted, they would have tons of cap space potentially going into next season or to take on "bad contracts". But, you would hope not to see too many of those bad deals in the inaugural season.

Yeah, I guess it's not as big of a concern as I thought.
It was probably right the first time.

Sorry for "changing" rules on the fly. With this being such an original league it's difficult to consider all of the possibilities ahead of time. And it seems that a fair bit of people want to give feedback, but not many want to do it on the open forum so we can discuss it. I get a lot of direct messages about rules clarification.
After considering the pros and cons of the auction process I think we need to make some changes.
Suggestion #1: We "nominate" the top 50 players at the same time. Bidding for each individual player would be opened until we have an 8 hour period without a bid. With stopped time between Midnight and 10:00 EST.

Yep, that looks like a relatively strategic way to do it. Do you continue with 50 players at a time through the top 300 ranked dynasty players before opening it up to the rest of the available players? Or, perhaps we look at lumping the top 100 prospects together and doing that grouping at once, too? The 8 hour clock with the stopped time makes the most sense, from my perspective. I'm not a fan of the 24 hour clock, especially if CooterTom joined this league...

Post by HabsGM (Ray) on Aug 25, 2020 9:26:03 GMT -5
Lol... Yeah the 24 hour clock would lead to some crazy long bidding wars.
Yeah I think we need to keep replenishing the auctions with new players as bidding closes on previous players.
I could create a "Prospect Bidding" board too. Then we could have bidding on both at once without too much confusion.

Just a reminder to everyone, for the inaugural auction.
Players/prospects that are "drafted" who have not completed their real life ELC (entry level contract) can only be signed up until the end of their real life ELC. At which point they will be subject to offer-sheets. Whether that is next off-season or 5 years from now.
For players that have only played one of their years then they can only be signed for 2 years.
For players have have only played two of their years then they can only be signed for 1 year and will be subject to offer-sheets next off-season.
In case it wasn't obvious. If a player has finished their ELC this year there's no notation needed. They won't be subject to offer-sheets since this auction serves as a bidding war.

So here's a question someone asked. I will answer below.
The salary is going to always be the same for each year of the contract.
So on a $2m auction win
Ages 26-30 1 year contract = Auction price - $2,000,000 15% raise for a 2 year contract - $2,300,000/$2,300,000 17.5% for a 3 year contract - $2,350,000/$2,350,000/$2,350,000 20% for a 4 year contract - $2,400,000/$2,400,000/$2,400,000/$2,400,000 22.5% for a 5 year contract - $2,450,000/$2,450,000/$2,450,000/$2,450,000/$2,450,000

Q & A with Ray
Yes, all players who have not completed their real life ELCs can only be signed until their real like ELC is complete. Then they will be subject to Offersheets.
So a guy like Kotkaniemi can only be signed for 1 year and next off-season managers will be able to send offers on him.
Well... The ones from this auction are signed for whatever salary we sign them for... But they are ELCs. The timeline matches up to their real life ELC.
Future entry drafts will be done the same as other leagues. However, there is a formula for their contracts based on draft position.

After a few inquiries and some discussion, it seems that the better route for players drafted in our annual entry draft is to follow their real life ELCs.

You must dress 3-4 Centers 7-8 Wingers 5-6 Defensemen 1-2 Goalies 4-8 Bench 24 Total "active roster spots"
—————
I need some clarifications on this.
Do the 24 Total “active roster spots" accumulate points in a given match-up, or is the the maximum total number of roster players including the bench that do no accumulate points ?
If it’s the second option, then exactly how many players can accumulate points in a given matchup ?
