This is my last lengthy post to try and make these boards more active. Discord is great to chat, but if you want to foster an active community and seem like an active league I think it's important to have activity on the boards. Leagues that die off are usually the ones with not much interaction. Post whatever you want here, I know a bunch of you know each other from other leagues, but we don't all know each other and if we are going to be in this league for a while it would be cool to know names instead of calling people XXX GM.
Name/Age/Location - Matt, 35, Barrie ON
Job - Army Logistics Officer (Currently Administration Officer at the Chaplain School that trains all Canadian Chaplains and no courses currently so free time to do stuff like this)
Fantasy Experience - Thankful for Fantrax keeping a history, curious if anyone has crossed paths with me over the years from old leagues.
NHL GM Game 2011-14 (LAK) My first fantasy league was a 24 team points league with a little more simplified scoring than this. I joined when the league began and won my division two of the three years and won the championship year two. Sat on the trade panel and league dissolved after three seasons.
NHL2 Fantasy Hockey League 2012-15 (TOR) Weird 24 team league where you dressed your best 3F 2D 1G lineup each week. Inactive league and almost forgot it existed until now.
Fantasy NHL GM - 2012-13 (FLA) Spinoff 24 team league with some similar GMs from NHL GM Game, wanted a challenge and FLA was a really bad starting roster at the time and managed to win my division. League suffered from inactive GMs and folded, was on trade panel.
NHLXP 2013-14 (STL) Active GMs from Fantasy NHL GM started another new 24 team points league and I won the championship, 2nd points league championship in two years. League didn't make it to year two, was on trade panel.
BBKL 2013-current (BUF) Was getting frustrated with inactive GMs and not finding enough people that followed hockey as passionately as I did and I heard about a really active league entering it's third season. I joined and started posting waiting for a team to open up and was hooked. League was extremely active with real smart mature professionals from all different jobs and countries around the world united by their love for the game. This was the fantasy hockey experience I was waiting for and with how well run and serious it was it was like going from Mickey Mouse leagues to the big leagues. League has 307,219 posts as of now and after eleven years is still the most active and competitive league on the internet as far as I'm aware of. 13 GMs have over 10,000 posts with one having 20,000+. I'm only at 6100 which is 2.23 posts per day, pretty low in comparison to others. Took over a bottom feeder team, with a good collection of picks and parlayed them into a competitive playoff team in year two and am now the first time B2B2B champion and was looking for the four-peat if it weren't for Covid. Sit on the Competition Committee that is a group that functions as commish and Fantrax Commish.
IFFHL - 2013-current (Barrie) Was one of three commissioners that founded this 24 team BBKL copy cat league that started with a draft of all players and prospects. At this point I was pretty much soured on points leagues, they were boring and lacked strategy. 16 category leagues allowed for so much more nuance when building a roster and the strategies for roster construction and how to go about improving certain elements of your roster were way more compelling than just looking at how may points a player put up. Going into a Sunday with so many close categories where every block, hit, SHTOI, PIM, PPP, GWG, etc could swing a matchup made for more entertainment following a weekly matchup then just wondering if I can get 6 more points than my opponent today. Last few seasons this league's activity has waned, but it's not officially dead yet.
Real NHL GM 2014-16 (STL) 24 team points league that had been around for a while. Some of the GMs I knew from other leagues that spawned from this original one asked me to take over a team and I agreed and won my division both my seasons in the league then resigned because I was more into the non-points based leagues.
Puck Buddies Fantasy Hockey 2014-15 (STL) - A bunch of BBKL GMs wanted to start another league from day one with stock rosters. Was on the Rules Committee and Fantrax commish and won the President's Trophy. We respawned the league the following season after it was found out one team created a fake 2nd team and made trades to stack their team (I still did better haha)
Armchair Dynasty Hockey League 2015-current (STL) - Another really active league that is entering year six with lots of original GMs and a competitive active GM base. Similar rules and format to BBKL, but with some tweaks to scoring categories and introduced a limited free agency aspect to make things feel like a different league. Trade committee and Fantrax commish, but my team has admittedly been a bit of a disappointment. Last year finished 12th of 31 which was my best finish and my team is kind of rebuilding still so things are looking up.
NHL Dynasty League 2019-current (COL) - A mix of ADHL + BBKL GMs decided that since we enjoy the leagues and competing against each other we would start up one with actual $ on the line. $55USD buy in and really successful first year in the league with a good crop of GMs which seems to bode well for the future health. Still not as active as BBKL, but compared to most online fantasy leagues it's still very strong and active. Rules Committee and Fantrax commish which as you can tell I have similar roles in every league I'm in and it's not because I'm demanding and posting a lot. Not so humble brag, but I have encyclopedic knowledge of NHL players and can name probably 80%+ of team rosters off the top of my head and know the prospects worth knowing for teams. When you are in leagues like these for years you start to get to know players well and have a lot of experience. I met Ray here and even though I grew sick of points leagues I liked the start with an auction format since it was a new one for me and was intriguing. I like that there's $ involved since I think that leads to more invested GMs and I win a lot of leagues and am heavily involved and competitive so I wanted to try my hand at sitting back not worrying about running a league and rebuilding from day one.
Fav team/player - Leafs, Matthews
Hobbies - Fantasy hockey obviously! I also watch and play a lot of sports. Raptors are my 1B to the Leafs, been watching since day one so not a bandwagon fan now that they're good. Watch a lot of Jays too, but not as die hard as Leafs/Raps. Last year with no Covid I played on three ball hockey teams, two softball teams, volleyball indoor/beach team, soccer team and dodgeball team. Good thing for PVRs since most nights I play or watch sports. I have all the game systems too, but play pretty sparingly now a days, big gamer through high school and university though.
