	TAMPA HAS IT'S TEAM John Tavares named Captain
	Sept 23, 2020 ~ AP Tampa Bay has it's UHSL franchise player, and they've now made his captaincy official. John Tavares was announced as Lightning team captain during a small press gathering at a downtown Tampa hotel. "I'm excited and honoured to be selected by the Lightning, and named their inaugural Captain. I've been in contact with many of my new teammates and we're all pumped for training camp - whenever that will be. We're looking forward to meeting our fans, and figuring out what Lightning hockey will look like." - said a stoic Tavares. The veteran of over 800 NHL games will suit up for a new league and team, after the sudden collapse of the debt-ridden and now defunct NHL. Owner/President/GM/Head Coach Phil Esposito was also on hand to share his thoughts about his new franchise. "They're looking pretty fcking good, and I gotta say, $90 million for this team sure looks a lot better than the $50mil piece of sht the NHL sold me on back in the 90's. Whenever we can get the fans back in the stands without having to worry about people dying or what-not - I'll buy everyone a hot dog and a coke with whatever money I have leftover from this player auction. If we run out of hotdog dollars, I'll blame it on the agents." The line-up is completely unknown at this time as there have been no on-ice scrimmages as of yet, but here is a peek at this reporter's best guess: Anders Lee - John Tavares (C) - Roope Hintz Jordan Kyrou - Sean Monahan - Nick Schmaltz Danton Heinen - Ryan Johansen - Nick Ritchie Ryan Dzingel - Vinnie Hinostroza - Josh Leivo Rasmus Ristolainen - Erik Gustafsson Brandon Montour - Mackenzie Weegar Mike Matheson - Colin Miller Matt Murray Anders Nilsson Not much is known of the new league, or any of it's 32 franchises though it's been promised by league officials that more press releases will be forthcoming. 	BOLTS SQUEAK IN Lightning have secured the last play-off seed
	Apr 12, 2021 ~ AP The Tampa Bay Lightning season certainly didn't go as expected, with injuries and COVID-19 causing several roster and line-up problems during the shortened inaugural season. Players like Roope Hintz have been playing through injury all season, Matt Murray having a rough start to the season and subsequent injury, and of course the season-ending injury to Anders Lee. On the flip-side, some surprise rookies have made an immediate impact during the season. Ty Smith has had a wonderful season, leading Lightning defender in Fpts and Assists in his rookie season. Jordan Kyrou also put up solid second line numbers, a big jump from his first 40 games of pro hockey. The biggest surprise would have to be the play of rookie goaltender Vitek Vanecek, playing well as back-up to Murray but really stepped up when Murray went down to injury. He is currently playing in a tandem with recently acquired Kevin Lankinen who both look to push each other for starts in the playoffs. At the beginning of the week the team was several points out of the playoffs, but a good week and 4 wins have put them in the final seed competing for the Stanley Cup. Just minutes before midnight, Owner/President/GM/Head Coach Phil Esposito decided to pull the trigger on a trade. They sent a package of young players and picks to Colorado in exchange for veteran Chris Kreider. "Espo" had this to say, "I really wanted to give these guys a boost. They played their guts out last week to grab a seat in the playoffs and I felt they deserved a reward for that. We're going to match-up against a top-seed, so we needed to add some firepower to have a chance, I think. The salary cap makes everything difficult to do - but that's why I keep a bowl of jelly beans beside my phone." The first round line-up should look something like this for game-time on Monday night: Chris Kreider - John Tavares (C) - Roope Hintz Jordan Kyrou - Sean Monahan - Nick Schmaltz Danton Heinen - Ryan Johansen - Nick Ritchie Ryan Dzingel - Evan Rodriguez - Jordan Martinook Rasmus Ristolainen - Erik Karlsson Brandon Montour - Ty Smith Mike Matheson - Colin Miller Kevin Lankinen Vitek Vanecek Good luck to the Bolts and all of the USHL playoff teams.
